Sundown Gene Gordon Memorial Race 2021

The first-ever Sundown “Gene Gordon Memorial” Race will take place this year instead of our usual WIJARA race weekend. This race is open to any racer ages 5-19 years old. You do not need to have any team or race hill affiliation. This is an open invitation race weekend. All individual racers will compete in the U-class age brackets by gender (U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, U20). U-class is “U” Under that particular age. U8 = 7-yr, 6-yr, 5-yr olds; U10 = 9-yr, 8-yr olds; U12 = 11-yr, 10-yr olds; U14 = 13-yr, 12-yr olds; U16 = 15-yr, 14-yr olds; U18 = 17-yr, 16-yr olds; U20 = 19-yr, 18-yr olds. Age for the U-class will be determined by DOB as of 12-31-2020 (for example if your racer is 12 years old as of 12-31-2020 – they would be in the U14 class). The format will be GS (Giant Slalom) on Saturday and Slalom racing on Sunday. There is no team competition for this event. We will follow WIJARA competition rules for this event. It is not affiliated with WIJARA or USSA. Entry Cost for this event is $10, paid day of the event. The deadline to sign-up is Monday, January 18, 2021. SRT racers are covered for this event under team dues. Awards are TBD. Must follow Sundown’s COVID policies. Racers may slip in-course if conditions allow. Conditions may require that all inspections be done from outside the course. (Racers will be informed if this is required.)

Gatekeepers:
SRT will provide gate keepers during both days. Each course will specific designated spaces on each course where gate-keeping positions will be stationed. Please be on time for the gatekeepers meeting in the downstairs of South Lodge by 8:00 each morning, look for Andy Wickham. Gatekeeper Lift Tickets will be handed out at the meeting and specific gate-keeper locations will be assigned. Make sure all gate-keepers are in place at 8:40 am. For an additional $31.00 per lift ticket you can ski Friday night from 4pm to midnight!
On Saturday and Sunday the ticket windows in the Mountain Center will be open from 7:00 am to 9:30 am for racers and their families to purchase discounted lift tickets.
To make the process of purchasing your lift tickets go faster for you, tickets may be purchased online at http://shop.sundownmtn.com/groups Enter GROUP CODE: gordon2021 until midnight on Thursday January 21 or at the Mountain Center ticket window on Friday night January 22 from 6 pm to 11 pm.
Online tickets may be picked up Friday between 4 pm and 11 pm at the Mountain Center ticket window or Saturday morning between 7 am and 9:30 am at the Mountain Center designated area.
Racers may attach their lift ticket to a coat, helmet, goggles or a boot.
Awards:
Awards will be for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in all age/gender classes. Awards ceremony or distribution is TBD and will communicated the day of the race.
