Since 1973, Sundown Mountain Resort is a family-friendly ski and snowboard destination just outside Dubuque in the scenic Driftless Region of eastern Iowa. Offering some of the best skiing and snowboarding in the Midwest, Sundown is the only Midwest ski resort to receive the NSAA Award of Excellence and is a proud Indy Pass Resort Partner.
With 21 well-groomed trails, dedicated learning areas, quality snowmaking, and a nationally recognized Learn to Ski & Snowboard program, Sundown delivers a welcoming experience for all.

Our unique topography is part of the “Driftless Area,” a region left untouched by glaciers during the last Ice Age. While glaciers flattened much of the Midwest, this area preserved its dramatic bluffs, deep valleys, and rugged terrain, all carved by ancient rivers over millions of years. So, while we know it’s technically not a mountain, Sundown’s steep hills and valley make it feel like one to us—and perfect for winter adventure right here in Iowa.
