We run outstanding races on dual courses with dual timers that allow 2 racers on the courses at any time. We put 1000 racers through 25,000 gates in 5 hours averaging 3 races per minute. Download Sundown’s Release of Liability – PDF
The Sundown Mountain Jr. Race Team consists of skiers a minimum of five years of age and must be able to ski intermediate hills in control and be able to load and unload the chairlifts. You don’t need to be an accomplished skier to join. Beginners are welcome and encouraged to be a part of the team. Racers need skis (not twin tips), boots, poles and a hard sided helmet. Hard sided helmets are a full helmet that covers the ears entirely with the hard helmet structure. Hard sided helmets ARE REQUIRED in order to race which does follow USSA ski racing regulations.
You can make new friends, improve your skills, learn to run gates and ski at other areas. Medals are awarded to the top 5 racers in each age class for each race. Racing is fun and builds confidence.
We are a member of WIJARA (Wisconsin / Illinois / Iowa Junior Racing Assn.). WIJARA hosts four weekend races a year at various member resorts. WIJARA is a division of USSA (United States Ski Association).
Practices are held as soon as Sundown opens on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. Racing begins the first weekend in January and runs through the first weekend in March. For more information please read the attached file or contact Tim Link at 563-583-9602 or e-mail him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Local area high schools race each Thursday at 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. beginning January 9, 2014. The high schools race 8 ski and snowboard GS events. Racing fees are $18 for the season. Over the last 13 seasons, 13,000 racers have gone around 205,000 gates, over 3,100 miles at speeds up to 40 mph.
Adults (18 and older) can join up in a ‘league of their own’. It’s a fun filled recreational racing league, divided into three racing categories of skiers and riders. Join a team or form your own. Races are held on Tuesday nights beginning January 7, 2014 with special rates of $15 for racers on race nights. Contact Sundown Mountain Resort or visit our Contact Us page to send a message to the attention of Mark for more information. Racing begins in January and finishes the end of February.
